Mike Davis announces retirement from the NFL

On Monday, the 31-year-old former running back for the South Carolina Gamecocks, Mike Davis, announced his official retirement from the NFL. Davis' most recent team was the Baltimore Ravens. He did not play in the 2023 season. During his nine-year playing career, he was a member of six distinct teams.


Davis expresses gratitude for his NFL career

On Monday afternoon, Davis tweeted, "As I turn 31 today, I sit back and look on my NFL career and how thankful I am to be a part of a brotherhood." "I've made a lot of friends and memories thanks to this game. I'm appreciative of every NFL organization. Having said that, I'm going to retire.


Davis' NFL career stats and accomplishments

Davis last signed a $1.27 million, one-year contract with the Ravens. In 2022, he had eight carries for eighteen yards. This season was his second least productive one, following two of his best years to date. He saw 165 carries in 2020 while totaling 642 yards and six touchdowns with the Carolina Panthers. After that, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons, where in 2021 he ran for 503 yards on 128 carries and three touchdowns.


Davis' journey through the NFL

After 558 carries, 2,052 rushing yards, and 14 rushing touchdowns, Davis wraps up his NFL career. In addition, he recorded four touchdowns and 1,066 receiving yards on 171 receptions. Davis was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. It wasn't until his second season that he scored his first touchdown, despite playing in six games as a rookie. After being waived by the 49ers in 2017, he signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent two seasons in Seattle, where in 2018 he gained 514 yards on 112 carries and four touchdowns.

 

Davis' high school and college football career

Mike Davis, a native of Georgia, was a football player at Stone Mountain's Stephenson High School. He chose to attend South Carolina, where he succeeded Marcus Lattimore as the team's primary running back. After rushing for 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2013, he was named to the second team of the SEC. To enter the NFL Draft, Davis chose to forego his senior year. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds, and the 49ers selected him in the fourth round.
